A STUDY OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY LEVELS AND THEIR CORRELATION AMONG ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ADOLESCENTS IN LAHORE
Abstract
This research aimed to find out the relationship between students' participation in physical activities and its major correlates. Moreover, this study aimed to investigate the factors affecting students' participation in physical activities in public vs private school systems of Lahore. The participants of the study included both male and female students studying in grade 8 and were chosen using stratified cluster random sampling. The total sample consisted of 817 adolescents representing public and private school systems in Lahore. Physical Activity Questionnaire was used to measure physical activity of participants. The data was analyzed through SPSS 20. The findings revealed that majority of the participants had moderate PA Levels where no one was measured to be having high PA levels. Interesting results were observed for differences based on demographic characteristics including gender, parental support, physical facilities and use of screens. Recommendations are given to the school authorities to provide facilities, coaches, time slot to engage more students in physical activities.
