A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF STREET LIVABILITY BASED ON THE LOCATION OF GREEN SPACES IN GATED RESIDENTIAL COMMUNITIES IN LAHORE
Abstract
Rapid urbanization in cities like Lahore has led to challenges in the livability of residential streets, with factors such as overcrowding, traffic, poor infrastructure, and pollution impacting daily life. However, there is a growing focus on improving residents' quality of life, particularly in gated communities. Green spaces are essential for enhancing street livability, offering benefits like promoting social interaction, improving safety, and supporting mental well-being. This study compares three streets in different gated communities, each with a unique layout of green spaces, to assess how these spaces affect residents' experiences. By evaluating the physical conditions of streets through observational assessment and perceived livability by users through statistical analysis using SPSS, this study concludes that the streets with green spaces at the front and rear tend to offer better livability through enhanced social interaction and pedestrian experience, though each has unique strengths and gaps. This research offers insights into optimizing street design and green space location, helping urban planners create more livable, people-focused urban planning.
