EFFECT OF LIBRARY USE AND STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS AT UNIVERSITY LEVEL
Abstract
Libraries play a vital role in supporting students’ academic growth by providing access to a wide range of learning resources, technological tools, and scholarly environments. This study examined the effect of library use on students’ academic achievement at the university level. A quantitative research design was employed, using a survey method to collect data from a randomly selected sample of 350 undergraduate and graduate students from Lahore Leads University. A self-developed questionnaire was used to measure students’ perceptions of library use, learning experiences, and its influence on academic performance. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics through SPSS. Findings revealed that students strongly agreed that regular library use positively impacts their academic performance, improves grades, enhances research skills, and provides a conducive study environment. Students also reported that library staff support, access to academic journals, workshops, and digital resources significantly strengthened their learning experiences. However, some students expressed neutral perceptions regarding availability of books and adequacy of library facilities. Overall, results indicated a positive association between library use and academic achievement. The study concludes that university libraries remain essential learning hubs despite the rise of digital resources. Enhancing digital collections, improving physical facilities, and offering information literacy programs are recommended to maximize students’ academic success. This research contributes to understanding how effective library utilization can foster improved academic outcomes in higher education.
